The following obituary was published by Solimine Funeral Home, Lynn, MA at the time of Mr. Rosa's death:

Philip A. Rosa, “The Red Sox Barber”, 92 years of Danvers and formerly of Swampscott died on Thursday April 26th, 2018 in Brightview of Danvers after a brief illness.

Phil was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts the son of the late Joseph and Rachel (Douty) Rosa who were the founding owners of the Town Line Motel in Meredith, NH where Phil loved to spend time in the summer. He was raised in Lawrence and Lynnfield. He was a 1943 graduate of Wakefield High School. Phil lived much of his life in Swampscott and truly loved the city and its people. He was a strong supporter of the “Big Blue” and loved to watch their football games.

Corporal Phil Rosa was an Army veteran of WWII and served in Scotland and England with the 112th General Hospital. He served as a Technician 5th grade as a hospital medic. The 112th Hospital received many commendations while Phil served, including a special commendation by President Harry S. Truman. In 1945, when his service overseas was complete, Phil returned to the US aboard the Queen Mary.

Phil was a licensed barber at the age of 16 and he worked with his father and uncle at Rosa Brothers in Swampscott until they retired, and Phil took over ownership. A dual-licensed barber and hair dresser at Rosa Brothers, he served many people from a wide cross section of backgrounds, and as you can imagine there were a wide cross section of discussion from the barber’s chair. The conversation was always lively at Rosa Bros. He has had many celebrity clients at the shop including, but in no way limited to: Leslie Stahl, Former Governor John Volpe, Ted Williams, Carl “Yaz” Yastrzemski as well as his close and dear personal friends Tony Conigliaro and Johnny Pesky. He was also the first hair stylist to give the great Lucille Ball her iconic “poodle cut” and red hair while she was still a performer on Broadway. Doing hair was his passion.

Phil is survived, and will be deeply missed, by his beloved daughter, Cynthia and his grandchildren Patrick Montello, Jr and Nicholas Montello of Odessa, FL. He also leaves behind daughter Andrea Pelczar and her husband Mark of Danville, NH. His granddaughter Sharon Pelczar and her husband Jose Orta of Lawrence, Ma, and his great grandchildren Abel , Sage and Sylah Orta. Phil also leaves behind many cousins including, Irene Hyde of Norton, MA whom he adored and was more like a sister to him. But Phil realized that family isn’t defined by your bloodline. He loved big and there were many people that were not “blood” but were no less family to him, including his Godson David Lops and his sister, Beverly (Lops) Smiledge, Kerrie Antunes and her children, whom Phil considered to be his grandchildren, Nick and Allia Parianos. But none more than his beloved friend and colleague at the barber shop, Vincent Fazzolari and his son Joe. Vincent was very much the son Phil never had, and Joe was truly like a grandson to him. He was blessed to have known them both and proud that they will be the ones carrying on the Rosa Bros name.

Phil’s funeral will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 9:00 AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte 1A) Lynn followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott at 10:00 AM.
