He married Sarah "Sally" Maggard January 1860.

Andy was sent to the Albany, NY prison, along with his brother Wilson and cousin Andrew Jackson "Brandy Jack" Mullins for counterfeiting coins. Andy died in prison and one story reports he was drowned while being punished by prison guards.

His wife Sarah (born Feb. 19, 1838)wanted to marry her cousin William P Maggard but her parents would not permit it. When her husband Andy died, she married second to her first love, her cousin, William P. Maggard. She was a noted midwife on the Cumberland River. She died July 16, 1905 and is buried in the Old Maggard Cemetery in Eolia, Letcher Co., KY.
