John Burling was baptized on 12 February 1656/57 at the Church of Saint Margaret in Barking, Essex, England, a son of Edward Burling and Katherine Bowler.
Quaker. Wheelwright.
He emigrated to America in 1680, settling first on Long Island.
He later moved on to Burlington County, West Jersey (in present-day New Jersey).
He married Sarah Paxson in 1692. She survived him and married second James Kirkham.
In his will dated 30 May 1702, he mentioned his brother Elias Burling and his nephew Edward Burling, son of his deceased brother Edward Burling.
He died in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania on 9 June 1702 and he was buried the following day in Germantown.
