This pioneer couple took with them two horses, one rifle, one frying pan, one axe, one turpentine can, a few seeds and one baby. The woman rode one horse, led by the pack horse, and held the baby in her lap. The man walked ahead carring the gun.

First they built a cabin. First they had only one room, then a back room, later a kitchen was built off from the rest of the house. That was a sign of pioneer prosperity. They had 6 children and 6 acres of land cleared before they could afford to travel to Columbia to buy tin cups and plates for the children; until that time their cups had been made of home-grown "cymlin" gourds scoured to shiny whiteness. At the time the old couple died they had 13 children, 3 slaves, and 600 acres of land.

Miller Dogget was the son of Jesse Doggett in 1763 in Lynchburg, Campbell, Virginia Colony and Nancy McCown 1788 in Virginia. Both died in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Jesse died in 1831 and Nancy in 1853.

Miller and Delilah had 13 children. Those not listed here are:
5th child: Miller Doggett born 20 March 1815 in Tennessee and died between 1880 and 1900. He was married twice. His second wife was Cynthia Jane Moore born 1827 in Tennessee, married 1849 and died between 1880 and 1900. Both are believed to be buried in May Cemetery, Lawrence County, Tennessee. This has been handed down in the family. Miller and Jane had five children.

11th child: Allen H Dogget born 23 April 1826 and died 2 July 1844 in Giles County, Tennessee.
