Celena May Smith, 98, of Julesburg, Colorado passed away Wednesday, August 17th 2016 in Julesburg. Memorial services will be held September 3, 2016 at 11:00am at Austin-Tennant Funeral Home in Julesburg with Pastor Art Roth officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Celena May (Eeckhout) Smith was born July 27, 1918 in Julesburg, Colorado to Joe and Grace (Dutton) Eeckhout. She attended school in Julesburg and then graduated from CU in Boulder in 1940. Celena taught school in Delta Colorado and Boulder, married her true love, Al, in 1942 and they built a house in Julesburg in 1947. Celena became a farmer's wife and really enjoyed it. But every year when January rolled around they had their suitcases packed and off they would go to South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, India. They loved their trips every year and went around the world three times. Celena loved doing programs of their trips and showing all the amazing pictures. She also always wanted to do another Trapper’s Story. She was a member of the local PEO. She loved playing the piano and making lots of cinnamon rolls. Faye always told her that Uncle Albert spoiled her and Celena would just smile. She was a wonderful sister, aunt, great aunt, and great-great aunt.
Celena is survived by her brother, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great nephews and families.
She was preceded in death by her husband Al, father Joe, mother Grace, sister Margaret Jo, nephew Gifford Eckhout Jr., nephew Gene Mikelson, niece Gwen Nein, and great nephew Kevin Radel. Aunt Celena will be deeply missed by all.
