Bruce Brooks passed away July 10, 2016. He was born in Danville, IL on April 8, 1931, the son of the late Rev. Charles L. Brooks and Veral (Peck) Brooks. Bruce graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington, KY, received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, and his Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Delaware.

He worked at Procter & Gamble before being drafted into the Army Signal Corps in 1954. Bruce was posted to Tappahannock, VA, where he met his future wife, Eleana Gibson. On finishing his service, he worked for Procter & Gamble in Dallas, TX before moving to Delaware to work for Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Elkton, MD. He was employed there for 37 years until his retirement in 1995, working on the production of rocket motors for the US space program during an exciting time of early space exploration.

Bruce was an active member of Newark United Methodist Church, serving on the board of trustees and singing in the choir for 35 years. He volunteered for the AARP as a tax consultant, and managed emergency funds for the Newark Area Welfare Committee. Bruce loved singing, golfing, playing bridge, and fishing, and as an engineer was always interested in making and fixing things, including cars, furniture and home electronics.

He was predeceased by his sister Lyle (Brooks) Marquess and is survived by his wife, Eleana (Gibson) Brooks; two daughters, Jeanice (Mark Everist) and Lisa (Dennis Crain); one son, Charles (Heather Priestley Brooks); and four grandchildren, Ezra and Maya Brooks, Amelia Brooks-Everist, and Xavier Crain.

A memorial service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 East Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Newark Area Welfare Committee, PO Box 951, Newark, DE 19715 or Newark United Methodist Church.
