Son of Robert Webster Hoyt and Lucy Felton Hoyt who resided in Thompsonville, Connecticut.

Robert served as a Signalman Third Class, U.S.S. Callaway (APA-35), U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He resided in Hartford County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Robert was "Killed In Action: in the Invasion of Lingayen Gulf when the Callaway was hit by a Japanese kamikaze which crashed into the starboard wing of Callaway's bridge during the war.

The Callaway lost 29 crew members in this attack but survived the war.

Robert was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was buried at sea.
