James Swanson was the first principle of Ontario Bible School, now Master's College and Seminary. A diligent student of the Word, Swanson received Spirit-baptism at a Jack Saunders meeting in Lethbridge, Alberta. He entered Pentecostal ministry and was admired for his ministry gifts as a teacher, preacher, leader, and musician. He and his wife pastored in Mille Roches, Parry Sound, Arnprior, Windsor, Toronto, and Edmonton, Alberta. Swanson also served as the second General Superintendent of The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada from 1934-1937. Shortly after preaching a tri-state convention in Pontiac, Michigan, Swanson experienced a massive heart attack and passed away. A great loss for the national fellowship, his body was brought back to the Stone Church for the funeral amid a standing room only audience and 60 ministers on the platform. He is respected as a beloved early Canadian Pentecostal leader. James' wife, May Swanson (nee Scratch) (1898-1984), continued to serve as an evangelist and dean of women at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College and later at Bethany Bible College in California. Her funeral was held at the First Assembly of God in Pomona, California on September 11, 1984.
