Dad served in the U.S. Army being stationed in Korea. He is a lifetime member of VFW Post 379. Dad work career included working at Bar S packing and H & H packing in his early years, then working for Prentise Landscaping where his job was the landscaping at the Seattle Center for the 1962 Worlds Fair. Dad retired from Shelton School District in 1998.
He moved to Yakima after his second wife died. You could find Dad either working in the yard or tinkering in his shop. His hobbies are hunting, fishing & woodworking, we learned a lot about yard care, up keep & design. We spent many hours pulling weeds. Dad found comfort in the mountains. Having a second home in Packwood, he would build a fire and sit there until the last ember died.
Dad is survived by his companion, Betty Young, his children from by his first wife Irene. Son Zackery Jr. and his children Zackery, Sami, Andrew, Keith, Shantel and Nick and great grandchildren Lexi and Brody, daughter Donna (Jim) Tipton and their children Jocelyn and Kirstin and great grandchildren, Deegan, Ronin, Easton, daughter Cathe (Ed) Pottenger and their children Joe and Jim. His siblings Harold (Ruby) Schab of Wenatchee, Florence (Lloyd) Walker of Yakima, Bud (Devon) Schab of Zillah, Lorraine Erickson of Yakima, Lenore Schab of Yakima, Johnny (Kathy) Schab of Prosser, Tony (Kay) Schab of Spokane, Ed (Bev) Schab of Grandview, Margret of Spokane and Andrea of Spokane.
Dad's second marriage to Phyllis (Grable) Schab resulted in an extended family of five stepchildren, Elmer and Linda Grable, Richard and Mary Grable, Mike and Linda Grable, Dale and Pao Grable, Julie and Jim Adams, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Catherine Schab, brothers, Wally, Clem, Clarence, Bob, Rayme, Richard and Don and his sister, Marie and grandson, Jimmy Pottenger.
The children of Curt Schab would like to thank the 2nd floor nursing staff of Memorial, Dr. Brady and staff for their care and compassion and giving our dad more time than we thought.
Go rest high on that mountain now dad, with the Lord, no more pain, no more tears. You will be missed here by us, but we will see you again soon. We love you so much dad. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2 pm at West Hills Memorial Park.
