William Clinton "Clint" Ratliff, 81, of Little Prater, Va., passed away surrounded by family at Bristol Regional Medical Center Friday, August 19, 2016, following a brief illness. He was born in Buchanan County and was the son of the late Pierce and Pearl (Baldwin) Ratliff. He was a lifelong resident of Little Prater and was a member of Little Prater Church of Christ. He co-owned and operated Central Auto Parts in Grundy for more than 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 4th Armored Division, and served in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion. Clint was a man of many hobbies. He especially loved golf and was a charter member of Willowbrook Country Club and won the club championship many times. He had been a member of Fincastle Country Club, too. He loved to play cards, and enjoyed many, many years of Rook with his family and friends. He bowled on several leagues at Sandy Valley Lanes and won numerous championships. Clint never saw a stranger and loved to talk to everyone. He was a kind, compassionate and generous man to all. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Pierce and Pearl Ratliff; and one sister, Irma Calhoun. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patty Ratliff; two brothers, Mack Ratliff and wife, Kay, of Grundy, and Rob Ratliff and wife, Barbara, of Hansonville; two sisters, Lynn Smith and husband, Cap, of Grundy, and Mickey Lawrence and husband, Leighton, of Grundy. His nieces and nephews were considered to be adopted children to both Clint and Patty. They are Brenda, Johnny, Brad, Brian, Sarah, Jenny, Lisa, Teresa, Cullen, Morgan, Todd, Kara, Robert, Gerry, Barbara, and Lish. There are several great nieces and nephews; and three "special" adopted grandchildren, Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Emily Tolbert. Funeral Services for WILLIAM CLINTON "CLINT" RATLIFF will be conducted Monday, August 22, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Little Prater Church of Christ with Evg. Jon Searle and Pastor Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Va. Friends called at the Little Prater Church of Christ Sunday, August 21, 2016, at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. Active Pallbearers will be Leighton Lawrence, Cap Smith, Sam Hale, Joe Addison, Freddy Hackney, Anthony Skeens, Eddie Dean Stiltner, Sid Ratliff, Roger Rife, Greg Rife, Jay Rife, Ellis Epling, Alvin Childress, Harry Joe Yates, and family and friends. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Little Prater Church of Christ Building Fund, 1299 Little Prater Road, Grundy, VA 24614.
