Martha Ree Pry Holt, 77, of Steele passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, in Steele. She was born Nov. 18, 1938, in Cooter to the late Winston and Willie Mae Carter. She professed a hope in Christ in the spring of 1954 at the age of 15. In her early years, she was a member of the choir. She was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church for 62 years. She was a faithful and dedicated member until her health began to fail. She was united in marriage to Van Pry Holt on Sept. 23, 1961.
Mrs. Pry Holt was preceded in death by her parents, Winston and Willie Mae Carter; three sisters, Lula Mae Pitts, Gloria Jean Carter and Louise Parker; one brother, Henry Elbert Carter, and two stepbrothers, Gilbert Carter and Sammie Carter.
Survivors of Mrs. Pry Holt include her husband, Van Pry Holt; three children, Larry Pry of Steele, Laraine (Bobby Booker) Pry of Steele and Craig (Debbie) Pry of Armorel, Ark.; three grandchildren, Denise Pry of Germany, Camryn Pry of Armorel, Ark., and Ashley Walker of Opelousas; two sisters, Luberta McKinney of St. Louis, Mo., and Iola Turner of Portland, Oreg., and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pry Holt were Held at 12 noon Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Morning Star Baptist Church with Pastor James E. Hill officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers were Deacon Eddie Rodgers, Maurice Carter, Greg Carter, Shamar Pitts, Randy Carter and Mario Pitts. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Gilmer and Eddie Armstrong.
Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
