Elizabeth Harris was born in Monticello, FL, on January 31, 1910, to the late Elizabeth and Wallace Harris.

In 1924, her family relocated to Brevard County, Florida, making Titusville, FL, their home. In 1935, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Benjamin Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor united in fellowship with Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member until becoming ill.

She established and operated Taylor’s Beauty Salon for over 62 years, becoming a well-known cosmetologist.

Mrs. Taylor received her diploma from “Poro College” of Chicago in 1937, and received home instruction from the late Mrs. Mary Rogers. She advanced in her career by attending the “Sunlight Beauty School” in Miami, FL, in 1945, the “Jones Institute of Jacksonville, FL, in 1960, and FAMU’s Beauty College several years later.

She is fondly remembered as having a fifty cents box of Glossatina pressing oil and kid curlers made of brown paper bags. She charged her customers twenty-five cents for a press and curl. The customers washed their own hair. She excelled in the trends of new hairstyles and beauty culture and became a master of them all. The building that housed Taylor’s Beauty Salon still stands as a Titusville landmark today.

On the evening of April 25, 2002, at 7:30 P.M., she departed this life to celebrate life eternal with the Master. She is preceded in death by sisters, Nellie Harris and Amy Lloyd.

She leaves to mourn her passing: two sisters, Ella Mae (L.Z.) Butler of Titusville, FL, and Rebecca Grant of Mims, FL; nieces, Juanita James, Alfredia Jordan, LaWanda Campbell, Gwendolyn Forehand, all of Titusville, FL, and Ella Mae Harris of St. Petersburg, FL; nephews, Jimmie Lee Forehand and John Forehand; great-nieces, Sherylann Forehand, Michelle McNeal, and Nakisha Matthews; great-nephews, Leon McNeal, Nathan Robinson, and Ervin Mc Neal; great-grand nephews, Rashod Guinyard, James Myers, Jonathan Brown, Cameron McNeal, Joe Robinson, Mercedes Robinson, KiKi Robinson, DJ Robinson; and a host of cousins and friends.
