Shot down by enemy fighter on a bombing
mission against Nakajima Aircraft Factory in
Musashino, a western suburb of Tokyo, and
crashed at Inba Numa (marsh) near Shisui
Town, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
Nine crew KIA, 2 bailed and became POWs.

Reburial services for S/Sgt. Cecil V. Hassell, former student at Martins Mill, killed in action over Japan, will be held at the Zackrey Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky May 10.
A graduate of Martins Mill High School in 1941, Sgt. Hassell had lived near there all his life prior to volunteering for service in the Army Air Force November 9, 1941.
A radio operator for 22 months with a patrol record of 1,008 hours aboard a B-29, Sgt. Hassell was reported missing January 27, 1945, while on patrol duty off Saipan.
His family was advised of the location of his body in a common grave with eight other men in Japan Cemetery Number One. The bodies of the nine men will be reburied in a group ceremony at the Zackrey Taylor National Cemetery.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Cecil V. Hassell, now living in Corpus Christi; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Hassell of Dallas, formerly of Martins Mill; one brother, Royce Hassell, and one sister, Mary Frances Hassell, both living at home; and one aunt, Mrs. Ernest Brown of the Hobbs community.
Friends of the deceased who wish to wire flowers, may contact his mother at 1615 Domonique Place, Dallas, Tx. Mr. and Mrs. Hassell plan to leave for Louisville May 9.
