Stuart F. Hoskinson was the son of Riley M. Hoskinson (June 26,1819-Nov.7,1905) and Martha Fisher(1819-1899). His first name is sometimes spelled Stewart. Stuart F. Hoskinson served in Co. G, 73rd Infantry, Unit #396, Illinois Volunteers during the Civil War. Stuart enlisted on July 26, 1862 at Rushville, Illinois, and his father enlisted at the same time. Stuart and Riley Hoskinson were captured by the Confederate army on Sept. 20, 1863. On Sept. 25, 1863 Riley and Stuart Hoskinson escaped. Their story is recounted by Riley M. Hoskinson in the book, " A History of the Seventy-third Regiment of Illinois Infantry Volunteers". Stuart was shot in the left shoulder and was discharged because of his wounds on Feb. 10, 1865. He was a member of Stevens Post 1, G.A.R. in Seattle, WA. Stuart F. Hoskinson married to Ann Eliza Davis on June 22, 1868 in Kansas. Ann Eliza (Sept. 10, 1847-Nov. 29, 1920)was the daughter of James Davis and Mary Atlanta Plumd. Stuart F. and Ann Eliza Hoskinson had three children: Harry Grant Hoskinson (April, 1869-Aug. 2, 1901); Charles W. "Frank" Hoskinson (Sept., 1871-Sept. 28, 1923); Mary Hoskinson (died young). Stuart and Ann Eliza divorced and she married Joseph J. Derosier (1846-1928) in Albion, CA in 1877. Ann Eliza Derosier is buried beside her second husband in Little River Cemetery in Little River, Mendocino County, CA. Harry Grant Hoskinson was adopted by Amos and Alpha Hurst and known for the rest of his life as Harry Hurst. Charles W. "Frank" Hoskinson was adopted by William and Mary Larimer and was known as Charles W. Larimer. On Oct. 3, 1880 Stuart F. Hoskinson married Mrs. Katie McCabe in King County, WA. They were divorced in 1881. On June 6, 1883 Stuart F. Hoskinson married Nellie M. (Burnett) Andrews (1846-Feb. 13, 1891), daughter of Hiram Burnett, in King County, WA. They were divorced in 1888. Nellie Hoskinson is buried beside her first husband Stephen P. Andrews in Lake View Cemetery, lot O, in Seattle, King County,Washington. Her tombstone inscription reads "Nellie Andrews Hoskinson". In December, 1890 Stuart F. Hoskinson married Elizabeth Fisher (Feb. 12, 1845-Sept. 8, 1918), daughter of Daniel Donald Fisher and Emma Jane DeWitt, in King County, WA. Stuart And Elizabeth Hoskinson adopted a little girl who was known as Bessie May Hoskinson (May 6, 1892-?). Stuart F. Hoskinson lived on Bainbridge Island from 1879 to 1899. He and his fourth wife left Washington for Waycross, Georgia in 1899 and then moved to Hoopeston, Illinois in 1902. Stuart contributed photos and information to the book "Kitsap County History". Stuart F. Hoskinson came back to Bainbridge Island to visit his sister Ida (Hoskinson)Anderson on Oct. 11 and died at her home in Port Blakely just 9 days later and was buried in Island Center Cemetery even though he owned burial lot # 81, block 7, in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, Illinois where his parents and fourth wife are buried. Stuart's tombstone reads: "S. F. Hoskinson 1844-1919".
