A service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Free Chapel PFWB Church in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 until 3:45 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.
Mr. Evans was a native of Wayne County born to the late Will "Pet" and Johnnie Evans. He was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Pearce Evans; his children, Carolyn Herring and husband, George of Cedar Point, Leroy Evans of Princeton and Patsy Wise and husband, Danny of Dudley; grandchildren, Benton Herring and wife, Marcia, Lynda Smigelski and husband, Jerry, Tony Evans and wife, Karen, Dana Evans, Bobby Lee Gooding, Jr. and wife, Shirley, Rodney Gooding and wife, Lee Ann and Tommy Wise; great-grandchildren, Madison Herring, Matthew Smigelski, Aaron Smigelski, Anthony Proctor and wife, Kristy, Zachary Evans, Lauren Knuckles and husband, Andrew, Joshua Gooding, Josh Ward, Stormie Gooding, Dylan Gooding, Amanda Wise, Regan Wise, Sean Wise and Jenny Wise; great-great grandchildren, Austen Swain, Isaac Proctor and MacKenzie Knuckles; his brother, Jesse Evans; his sisters, Lydia Vinson and Dephane Potluck; his nieces and nephews, Mae Smith, Nellie Carter, Sarah Folis and Jimmy Potluck and a special family friend, John Waters.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by an infant son; his daughter-in-law, Merlon Evans and a grandson, Mark Wise.
