A native of Rhode Island, born October 17, 1917, Mr. Newman moved to Georgia in 1974 and was a retired textile salesman. Mr. Newman was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville serving as Eucharistic Minister and on the Welcoming Committee.
He was a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving during WW II in North Africa and Italy.
He sang with the Peachtree Barber Shop Quartet for 10 years. He was an acclaimed amateur golfer, with a record 6 club championships at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, RI.
Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his infant son, Robert Joseph, and 5 brothers. He is survived by his Wife of 65 years: Eva (LaRoche); Son: Frederick V., Jr. (Mary Kay); Daughters: Carolyn (Ronald) Wexler; Linda (Donald) Urquhart; Sally (Robert) Boyer; Cheryl (Bartley) Caudell; 14 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Building Fund, 319 Grayson Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The family will receive friends 7-8 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church followed by a Rosary.
