Henry Bolen was born about 1751 the son of James Thomas Bowling and Mary Overland.

Prior to July 8, 1773 Bought land in Westmoreland County, PA. (part that in 1781 became Washington County, PA. Bought of Sampson Beaver.

July 8, 1773 Sold above land to John Tennell. Henry did not have a wife at the time he sold land in 1773 else she would have had to sign too if that was the custom of the area. (7)

1774 In Dunmore's War. In Capt. Henry Hogehland's Company.

1774 Settled on the waters of Cross Creek, Yohogania County, VA. 400 acres. His brother Gerard settled here a year later. Now Jefferson Twp. since 1853, Washington County, PA. Prior Cross Creek Twp. formed in 1789, and Hopewell Twp. as original.

1777-1778 Davis Wilson sued Henry over debts.

1779 Fined according to law. Where? It is unclear exactly where.

June 24, 1780 Got 1,000 acres on Yellow Creek of Green River in VA (now KY). Locate. Garrett also got land that day. Same place.

1781-1783 Washington County, PA. Militia.

June 9, 1782 Sarah Bonham's possible husband Jacob Bonham, was killed with William Crawford at Sandusky (OH) massacre. 450 men recruited out of PA area. Was Henry one of those there?

July 1782 PA. Lawsuit brother Alexander Bowling, Edward Cook and James Fulton mentioned. James Fulton see #2084, page 411. Canoed on the Ohio River that month (July 1782) near Wheeling.

July 7, 1784 KY Henry married Widow Sarah Bonham. Her possible husband Jacob Bonham was (bond) killed June 9, 1782 with William Crawford at Sandusky (OH) massacre.

Dec 25, 1784 KY Henry (Fh250) was born. His mother probably wasn't Sarah (-------)(Bonham) Bolen.

March 1785 Henry Bowling had a Yohogania County, Virginia land grant on 8 March 1785, 287 acres on McMahans Run. William West had 113 acres on the same day and same watercourse. (note that sum of two parcels equals 400 acres and it was said that Henry Bolling purchased his land from William West) Only two other grants were on McMahans Run and they were also on 8 March 1785. Jacobs Walker 300 acres and Thomas West 370 acres. All these McMahans Run grants were not in present day Washington County, Pennsylvania but in present day Brooke County, Cross Creek Township, West Virginia,-- Ohio County, Virginia, prior. Author Raymond M. Bell located the lands as not being in Washington County, Pennsylvania, as proven by land records at the State Library in Richmond, Virginia. July 14, 1791 Mrs. Sarah Bolin, widow of Henry Bolin, married July 14, 1791, James Dunbar in Nelson County, Kentucky. Bond July 8, 1791 signed by John Muir. Marriage was by Benjamin Lynn from Minister Return. James Dunbar was probably a teacher because prior to 1791 an estate paid him for schooling children. (523) There is a Lynnview (named after the Lynn/Linn family), Kentucky, just east of the airport in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. (7)
