Elizabeth A. Hudson Smith Nail passed away Friday, August 19, 2016. Her service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum. She will be in state at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

Elizabeth "Liz" Nail was born on August 18, 1920, in Mart, Texas, to L. B. and Alice Chalista Hudson. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in the Mart and Kirk communities. She graduated from Mart High School and attended Texas Women's University in Denton and Baylor University.

In 1942, she married Bobby W. Smith. To this union were born three children: Sandra Lee, Robert Gordon and Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Smith. She and B. W. raised their family in Mart until his death in 1969. She later married Roy E. Nail of Mart.

Liz was an active member of The First United Methodist church when living in Mart. She had many interests including, oil painting, gardening, flower arranging, fishing, playing card and domino games and golfing. She was very proud of her certificate showing she made a hole in one. Her favorite thing to do was going to casinos and playing slot machines, poker and Blackjack.

She loved Baylor University and was a huge fan of every sport. She attended many of their games in her younger days and rarely missed watching them play in later years on television. The Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys were also her teams and she was a faithful fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, B. W. Smith; daughter, Beth Smith; son, Robert G. "Berto" Smith; husband, Roy Nail; sisters, Susie Faye Hudson, Goldie Marie Moody, Mary Swaim; and her brothers, Dunker Hudson, Jack Hudson and R. L. "Buster" Hudson.

Liz lived her life with a giving and caring spirit, a selfless attitude and a passion for family and friends. She suffered many personal losses in her life, but never lost her sense of humor, her love for life or her faith. She was a quiet woman who had tremendous strength, unending courage and always a positive attitude. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Providence Park, where she made her home for the last 13 years, for their compassion and caring.

Memorials may be made to Providence Park, 300 W. Hwy 6, Waco, TX 76712 or First United Methodist Church of Mart, 701 E. Texas Ave., Mart, TX 76664. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www. WHBfamily.com.
