Dale Null Ellis, 95, of St. Joseph, MO Died August 19, 2016 at Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, MO.
Born in Guilford, MO October 4, 1920 he lived in St. Joseph from 1922 until 1946. He then lived in Steamboat Springs, CO for 1 year before moving to the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California where he lived until 1962. At that time he returned to St. Joseph until his retirement in 1982 when he returned to California. After his wife Alice died in 1988, he then returned to St. Joseph.
While in California he was employed in the banking and financial industry in Pasadena and Beverly Hills from 1946 until 1962. After returning to St. Joseph, he was employed at Woodbury Chemical Company and Farmland Industries retiring in 1982 as Operations & Maintenance Manager. Upon his return to St. Joseph in 1990 he was employed at HPI as Quality Supervisor and in 1998 started working at OMNIUM as Buyer & Custodian of MRO parts, He retired again for the final time in 2011 at the ripe old age of 91. In 2005, Dale was nominated for and received the distinction of Outstanding Older Worker for the State of Missouri and was invited to the national ceremony for Outstanding Older Worker.
He served in the United States Navy as a Sonar man aboard the USS PCER 952 from 1943 until 1946, spending the entire time in the South Pacific. The crew of his ship still has annual reunions but there are very few of his crew that still attend. He was a member of the Wyatt Park Christian Church where he was active in the 50-50 Sunday School Class as President, served as Deacon and chaired the Property Committee. He was a member of the American Legion Post 359 and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1668, the Military Order of The Cooties Pup Tent MO19, the American Association of Retired Persons and a former member of the BPOE Elks Club.
On October 14, 1941 he was married to Alice Marie Steinacker, his high school sweetheart and the mother of their 2 sons. She passed away in California in 1988. After returning to St. Joseph he married Nellie Carr McDonald who passed away in 2001. He was also proceeded in death by his parents Lester and Mabel Null Ellis and three brothers George Russell Ellis, Millard Hainey Ellis and Roy Glenn Ellis.
He is survived by his two sons Steven Dale Ellis of Frederick, Maryland and Russell Lee Ellis, his daughter in law Felisha and their son Dylan of Agency, MO and three granddaughters Courtney Parrish, Independence, MO, Leslie Ann Ellis, Tacoma, Washington and Valerie Marie Bass, Reston, Virginia, and his sister Anna Jean Palmer of Indianapolis, Indiana, The are also numerous great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces scattered throughout the United States.
Mr. Ellis has been cremated under the Care of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Memorial Service 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at our chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
