The Rev. Vetle O. Aaker, retired Lutheran Pastor, (Evangelical Lutheran Church) was killed instantly in an auto-train crash November 23, 1959, at New Richmond, Wis.
Rev. Aaker was born in Seljord, Telemarken, Norway, September 13, 1885, to Olaf and Ingeborg Bringen Aakre. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, the Lutheran State Church of Norway.
He graduated from Seljord High School, and attended Bratsbergs College. He then immigrated to American in 1907, and shortly after enrolled in Humbolt College, Humbolt, Ia. He then transferred to Augsburg College, Minneapolis, Minn. While attending Augsburg, God called him into the Holy Ministry. The Rev. Aaker was graduated from Augsburg Theological Seminary in 1915. In 1917 he was united in marriage to Emma Felland, of Clear Lake, Wis.
The Rev. Aaker served parishes in the Lutheran Free Church in Westby, Mont., and Seattle, wash. While serving the Norway parish, the Rev. Aaker began the work which resulted in the establishing of "The First Lutheran Church" in Concordia, Kan. After recuperating from another serious illness he resumed parish work in Hawkins, Wis., for ten years.
