Mary was a wife, mother and homemaker. She grew up during the depression and learned how to economize and live on a budget. She pulled the family through some tough times, because her husband was frequently unable to work due to his disability from World War II. She was an amazing cook, made the best bread from scratch, peach pies, cherry pies, incredible German chocolate cake and her famous 10 pound double layer pizza. She would turn out 6 or 8 pies with what seemed to be very little effort. Her best line was, "That's a small pie, cut it in fourths"-something every kid wants to hear. And for people that hated fruitcake, they would not turn down a piece of hers because it was amazing (must have been the peach brandy.) She loved her yard filled with many varieties of flowers, especially irises and gladiolas, and tried to grow them in as many colors as she could find. She loved to sew and made stuffed animals and dolls for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed embroidering pillowcases, tablecloths and hankies as gifts. She loved to work with ceramics and created some beautiful family keepsakes that will be passed down through the generations. She had a beautiful laugh. She got down to serious business with a good hot cup of coffee and a bunch of soap operas to pass the afternoon.

Mary was born in Doniphan, Kansas, but grew up and attended schools in Atchison, Kansas. While attending Lutheran parochial schools, there were several "Marys" in her class, so the school decided to use her middle name, and from then on was called Louise by friends and family. She met husband Willard through mutual friends. During World War II, they were stationed with the Army for several years in Tallahassee, Florida, where she picked up a southern accent that stayed with her for the rest of her life.

Mary was survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. At the time of her death, her sister and two brothers survived. Sister Jeannie passed in 2008 and brother Jacob passed in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willard, three brothers and two grandchildren. She was well loved and is greatly missed.
