Judge C.E. Chillingworth, abducted with his wife on June 15, 1955, from a seaside bungalow in Manalapan. The judge, 58, and his wife, Marjorie, 47, were bound, weighted and forced overboard, alive, two miles out to sea, by two assassins hired by a fellow judge who hated and feared Chillingworth. ``It was the crime of the century".
The bodies of Judge C.E. Chillingworth and Marjorie Chillingworth were never recovered.

An empty double grave with a twin headstone bears their names today in the Chillingworth family plot in West Palm Beach's WoodLawn Cemetery.

There is a Chillingworth Drive off Okeechobee Boulevard.
