When he was in his early teens his family moved to San Francisco where his father established the Page-Bacon Bank. After studying in France and Germany, Frank established the Globe Iron Works of San Francisco. He married Mabel Minerva Cooper, a native of St. Louis, 24 Dec 1874.

The marriage ended bitterly in 1898. Mamie Cooper Bacon received custody of their eight children. Mrs. Bacon lived at the corner of Durant and Harrison Street in Oakland, CA.
