US Congressman. He completed his education at local schools and became a farmer. He was elected to Congress as a Democrat in 1840 and served one term, 1841 to 1843. He did not run for reelection in 1842 and returned to farming. Egbert served as Town Supervisor of Southfield from 1855 to 1856, and was Richmond County Clerk in 1869.
