Michael John Grimm was born in June 1869 to two deaf-mute parents, Johan "John" and Adeline/Adelia D (Millot) Grimm. He was born hearing, but lost his hearing at age two after contracting scarlet fever. He attended Michigan School for the Deaf, and married another deaf-mute, Della Mary McCurdy on September 19, 1895. They moved to Akron, OH, where Michael John was cofounder of the Akron Chapter of the National Fraternity of the Deaf. He made his living as a printer, and later worked for Goodyear, retiring from there in 1944. He died at age 83 after two weeks in a nursing home in Millersburg, Ohio.
Michael John and Delia had three children: Rollin John (who died in infancy), Adele "Lucille," and George Burt Grimm (who married Rhea Beyerle and adopted my father Donald and his older sister Jan). After George's first wife Rhea died he married Mary Murray Stark of Canada. George died 3 Sep 1994 in Unionville, Ontario, Canada, and is buried in Eden Mills Cemetery in Eramosa, Wellington County, Ontario.
