John was born May 18, 1943 in Houston, Texas to Jimmie A. and Florence (Wilson) Ritchie. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 serving in the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged in 1966. John married Margaret R. Haynes on December 3, 1968 in Houston, Texas.
He enjoyed collecting coins, watching old movies and spending time with his family. John and Margaret moved to Milano, Texas in 1985 from Chanelview, Texas where he worked for Milam County, Precinct 3, as a Road and Bridge Maintenance worker. In 2004, he and Margaret moved to Dayton, Texas to live next to their son Russell until they both moved into nursing homes due to their declining health.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brandi Brooks; parents, Jimmie A. and Florence Ritchie; and a sister, Estell “Polly” Carnes.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, two sons, a daughter, grandchildren,and a sister, Betty.
