Barbara Robbins volunteered to go to Vietnam and work for the State Department as a Secretary. She was in fact an undercover employee for the CIA. Barbara, a patriotic young woman, volunteered for the CIA to serve her country. On March 30, 1965, enemy insurgents detonated a car bomb outside of the U.S. Embassy where Barbara worked. She was killed instantly. Her remains were returned to her parents in Boulder, Colorado. She was twenty-one, the first female civilian to die during the Vietnam conflict.
