Billy Otis Hoover, 85, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Bill was born September 13, 1930, in Afton, Iowa, the son of Robert H. and Georgia M. (Otis) Hoover. He attended Atlantic Community schools graduating with the Atlantic High School Class of 1948.

He joined the Iowa National Guard in 1948 and remained active until 1966.

On January 13, 1966, Bill married Eleanor Benton in Omaha, Nebraska.

Bill worked in the construction business for A. M. Cohron & Son for many years retiring from there in 2008. He then continued doing dirt work with Chris Heuton for a few years more.

Bill enjoyed being with his family and took great delight in chasing after his children and grandchildren. He loved football, all high school sports, and he had a great love for dogs. He spent a lifetime playing in the dirt and he was happiest sitting on a dozer. He was very outgoing and never knew a stranger. Bill was also known for his big smile and boisterous laugh.

He was a longtime member of the Atlantic Elks Lodge #445 and a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents.

Surviving Bill is his wife, Eleanor of Atlantic, Iowa; daughters, Lori (Mark) Christianson, Billie Hoover (friend Terry Hoskins-Anita) and Jackie (Andre) Sampson all of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Jessica (Tyler) Sandbothe of Griswold, IA, Zachary Christianson of Atlantic, IA, Cole and Alex Sampson of Atlantic, IA; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Levi Sandbothe of Griswold, IA; brothers-in-law, Rayburn (Dixie) Benton of Malvern, IA and Roger (Kathy) Benton of Mesa, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation with family will be from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the Atlantic High School in Atlantic IA.

Memorials may be made to the family for designation later.
