Thomas Allen Leach, age 73, passed away on August 15, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born November 18, 1942 in Bridgeport, Michigan to Arthur and Mary Leach. After graduating from Frankenmuth High School, he attended Michigan State University and graduated as a civil engineer. He was employed with General Motors in Saginaw until he retired. In 1965 he married the love of his life Ruth Schroeder of Clare, Michigan. Last year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were also blessed with a loving son, Chris Leach.

Tom was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church of Bridgeport. He enjoyed being involved with the local community helping with youth sports, the boy scouts and serving on the school board. At their Hartl Drive home he enjoyed fishing in their pond, mini farming with their dogs, chickens, peacocks and rabbits, and spending time with the neighbors. He was an avid deer hunter and even as a young man he never missed hunting season at the 3 Oaks Hunt Club, with family, friends and his hunting buddy Winn for over 58 years.

After retiring, they moved north to their beautiful cabin on the Big Creek with their wonderful small neighborhood in Luzerne, Michigan. Tom had many interests. He enjoyed trout fishing with his buddy Del, he took Windsor chair building classes and loved teaching his grandsons woodworking . He attended oil painting classes in West Branch and was involved in art shows and collaborated with artist Michelle Reetz to enter 3 paintings in Grand Rapids Art Prize. He was also very involved with the Mio Irisarians and loved growing his many varieties of Irises and showing off his blue ribbons. He and Ruth became active members of the Fairview Mennonite Church helping with dinners, VBS and senior’s group. He also loved to travel and spend time with his son’s family and four grandchildren. They all enjoyed many wonderful vacations together.

He is survived by his wife Ruth of Luzerne, Michigan, son Christian (Christina), grandchildren Corey (Zoe), Amos, Erika and Kayla all of Saint Joseph, Michigan. Brother Joe (Kathy) Leach of Saginaw, sister Jill (Frank) Kelly of Saugatuck, brother Mark Leach of Menominee, Wisconsin. Nephews Matt Leach of Denver and Brian (JJ) Kelly of Portland, Oregon and niece Alison (Dan) Hamlin of Escanaba, Michigan.

Celebration service to be held at 1 pm on Saturday August 20, 2016 at the Fairview Mennonite Church in Fairview, Michigan. Memorials will be given to Eagle Village adoption agency of Michigan.
