A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late George Stanley Vardiman and Ruth Emily Bishop Robinson. He was also preceded in death by his wives: Hazel Ann Rice Vardiman who died in June of 1991, and Martha Jane Elkins Vardiman who died in July of 2013; son, Rodney Vardiman; and a great grandson, Rodney Ralph Vardiman, III.
Hoppy was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and attended Freedom Baptist Church. He retired as an Area Supervisor from the City of Asheville Sanitation Department after 30 years of service.
Surviving are his grandchildren: Rodney Ralph Vardiman, Jr., and Ashley Vardiman Pethel; great-grandchildren: Carson and Christian; sisters: Margie Wells, and Sherrie Wilson; sister-in-law, Pat Hodges; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, August 20, 2016 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
