Christine Wissinger
1915-2016
Christine Smith Wissinger passed away August 13, 2016 at the age of 100 in El Campo, Tx. The youngest of 10 children, Christine was born in Saratoga, Tx on Christmas Day 1915 to James Andrew Smith and Mary Ann Bradley Smith.
Christine grew up surrounded by her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews in the East Texas piney woods and after high school moved to Houston to begin nursing school. Christine was trained as a registered nurse at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Houston, Tx and worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital until she married John Earl Wissinger in January 1949. Their marriage was blessed with two sons John Frederick and David Bradley. After marriage she lived in the Heights, Bellaire, Maplewood, Clarewood House and finally Meridian in El Campo. She was active in Cub Scouts, library volunteer and the Harris County Senior Softball League.
Christine was the most loving and caring wife, mother and Nanny her family could ask for. She was loved by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her wonderful home cooking, her sense of humor, her beautiful artwork and her green thumb.
Christine is survived by her sons John F. Wissinger and wife Anna, Brad Wissinger and wife Sharon. She is also survived by her grandchildren Courtney Wissinger Eiland and husband Jason, Molly Wissinger and husband Aaron, John W. Wissinger and wife Linda, Jim Wissinger and wife Jennifer, Hanni Mican and husband Brandon, Mike Wissinger, Mary Wissinger and 10 great grandchildren, Wyatt, Johnny, Whitley, Henry, Coco, Beau, Trent, Nola, India and Zoe. A Memorial Service is planned at Clarewood House in Houston on August 18 at 1:30PM in the Chapel. Private graveside ceremony.
