Captain Jonathan Clark was born in Nantucket in 1704 and married his wife, Miriam Worth, in Nantucket in 1728. They were members of the Society of Friends. He and his wife and all of their children but one son moved to Barrington, Nova Scotia, in 1763 and remained there for ten years after which they traveled to Maine and became the first white settlers of what is now China, Maine. Jonathan and Miriam died on their property on the east side of China Lake and were probably buried there. In the 1920's a monument was placed in the site where their graves were thought to be.

Jonathan and Miriam had seven children:
