Henry Pierceable “Whitey” Friend, 92, of Connersville went to the Lord on Monday, August 15, 2016 while at the Lincoln Center in Connersville. He was born April 13, 1924, and is the son of James Preston and Anna Friend, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 16, 1944, he married Bertha Allen in Connersville. Henry enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, checkers, coonhunting, and spending time with his family. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939. He was a member of Village Creek Primitive Baptist Church. In 1988, he retired from Ford. He is survived by five sons, Ralph (Cindy) Friend of Erie, PA, John (Debbie) Friend, David (Dixie) Friend, Charles Randy Friend, and Steven (Tammy) Friend, all of Connersville; five daughters, Bertha Ann (Taulbee) Short, Patricia (Edward) Gerrian, Sara Romona (Joe) Mengedoht, Joyce (Jeff) Davis, Barbara (Charles) Throop; a sister, Margie Ward of Vera Beach, FL; a brother, William Friend, of Lucasville, OH.; forty-four grandchildren, ninety-eight great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Henry Pierceable Friend II and Wayne Gary Friend; as well as three brothers, Felix Friend, Lewis Friend, and Charles Friend. The service for Henry will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00am, at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home in Connersville, with Elder Mike Chastain of Village Creek Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Village Creek Cemetery. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, August 18 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home.
