• Joseph Donald David, 64, was found dead at his home in Ajo on Monday, July 25, 2016. He was born in Benson, Minnesota, on August 18, 1951, to Ann Hollister and Richard F. David. He grew up in the print shops of newspapers his parents owned in Minnesota, Iowa, and Arizona, arriving in Ajo from Gila Bend at the end of his high school career. He was a member of the Ajo High School Class of 1969. He attended Arizona State University, studying wildlife biology, but left to join the US Army. He served in communications for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged February 22, 1974. He spent much of his working life as a machinist, retiring as a supervisor for Donaldson in Alabama in 2007 and returning to Ajo to join his siblings at the Ajo Copper News in 2008. He worked part-time at the newspaper as a proof-reader and made the weekly trek to the Phoenix area to pick up the printed copies of the paper. At his request, no services are being held. His ashes will be scattered at his favorite camping spot.
