Evelyn Laura Dodge Kirk, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at the age of 90. Mrs. Kirk was born on November 28, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to Kenneth Dodge of New York City and Evelyn Covington of Danville. She attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and was married there in 1947 to Dr. T. Allen Kirk, Jr.

Mrs. Kirk moved to Roanoke County in 1957 with her husband who established his practice of general surgery. Having been enamored of the Scottish Terrier, the Kirks established their nationally acclaimed kennel and bred some of the finest Scotties in the country. Mrs. Kirk exhibited most of their dogs herself garnering a fine reputation. She began her judging career in 1975, beginning with Scotties and eventually covering the entire Terrier Group. This activity took her all over the country, and also to Scotland and Ireland.

Mrs. Kirk served in all capacities of the Roanoke Kennel Club, was one of the founders of the Scottish Terrier Club of Western Virginia, and was national secretary of the Scottish Terrier Club of America.

Mrs. Kirk is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. T. Allen Kirk, Jr.; her son, T. Allen Kirk, III and wife, Pamela; brother-in-law, Jack L. Taylor and son-in-law, Thomas L. Zimmerman.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by a daughter, Laura Kirk Zimmerman of Roanoke; grandson, James Kirk Zimmerman and wife, Kari Nicole of Roanoke; granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Kirk-Hines of Ridgeway; sister-in-law Elizabeth Kirk Taylor of Englewood, Florida; and five great grandchildren.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel with an interment to follow at Fair View Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 and from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016. Online condolences may be expressed at www.oakeys.com.
