Mrs. Jean McIntosh Bates, age 78 of Winfield, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 in the Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Mrs. Bates was born on August 9, 1938 in Aurora, Illinois a daughter of Floyd Leon McIntosh and Helen Viola Foss McIntosh; resident of Guin and Winfield areas for past 37 years; she was a waitress and a cook in various restaurants; the widow of Douglas Jackson "Jack" Bates; and she was a member of Shepherds Field Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Joe and Alan Channell; an infant son, Bart Ray Channell; one sister, Linda Lou Thompson; one brother, Roger Leon Curry; and one step-daughter, Brenda Bates.

Survivors include two son, David Channell and his wife, Shirley of Guin and Bruce Channell and his wife, Margaret of Winfield; two daughters, Pam Gardner and her husband, Michael of Winfield and Beverly Markle of Guin; two step-sons, Rick and Roger Bates of Illinois; one step-daughter, Donna Bates of Illinois; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Nancy Linsey of Nebraska and Judy Courtney of Indiana; three brothers, Randy and Kevin McIntosh and Danny Raines, all of Illinois; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home. Dr. Larry Wates will officiate. Burial will follow in Winfield City Cemetery with Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
