Steven Chester Barns, known to most acquaintances as "Chet". He was 9 years old when he moved with his parents from Thompson to Starrucca. After graduating from the local high school he attended Westcheser State Normal school, now Westchester University, graduating in 1921. He became associated with the mill in 1925.

On June 18, 1927, Chet married Helen Emily Stephens of Carbondale. Helen came to Starrucca as an elementary school teacher.

In 1935 after the death of his father, Chester operated the mill alone until 1961, when his son, Stephen Chester Jr, joined him as a partner. The mill closed in 1986 due to the death of Stephen Chester Barnes, Jr.

In his youth, Chet was one of the star players on the reowned Starrucca Basketball Team, and in retirement an avid golfer. He was a life long active member of the Baptist Church an served at various times as deacon and trustee. For year he taught the mens or adult Sunday School Class, as did his father. For over 20 years he served as an active member of the school board.

Burial was in the Starrucca Cemetery.

Chester Barnes, Son of Hattie (Armstrong) & Stephen Barnes. He married Helen E Stevens on June 18 1927, in Thompson, Pa.

They had 3 children:
Betty Helen Barns, married Paul Spraque Kneeland.
Dorothy Ann Barnes, married Harvey Calvin Boughner. Stephen Chester Barnes, Jr. married Helen Patricia Welch.
