Danny Lamar Palmer was born June 21, 1954, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Edna Ruth Fletcher and James Thomas Swoope. Danny was adopted as a baby and raised by his grandparents, Sampson Palmer and Rosalee Palmer of Marietta, Georgia. He graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1972 and was employed by Kemira kChemicals and worked there for 44 years as a chemical blender. Danny was raised in the Church of God in Christ and his loving grandparents made sure that he was there every Sunday. He joined Zion Baptist Church in 1982 and served on the Deacon Board for 24 years. He also served in the Mass Choir, Gospel Choir, served on the addiction ministry, and was a trustee for many years. Danny loved watching sports, going to the beach, and cruising, visiting the Caribbean Islands. He was a loving man, quiet, and observant and when he spoke ... everyone listened.

He married Sis. Gloria Palmer on Akugust 5, 1995 at Zion Baptist Church. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 21 years, Rev. Gloria Slade Palmer of Kennesaw, GA. He is preceded in death by his biological parents, James Thomas Swoope and Edna Ruth Fletcher and adopted grandparents, Sampson Palmear and Rosalee Palmer. Although he preceded Danny in passing, his older brother Leon Paden held a special place in Deacon Danny's heart, and was lovingly looked up to from early childhood. He leaves to mourn two daughters, Rashaunda Hill (Stan) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Lakeshia Frugee (Paul), of Flower Mand, Texas, three step sons, Antonio Holmes (Myra) of Decatur, Georgia, Leon Holmes, Jr (Sharon), of Douglasville, Georgia, and Tobie Banks (Clinisia) of Dallas, Ga. In addition, he leaves 14 loving sisters and brothers: Dr. Arlean Chisley (Robert) of Lawrenceville, Ga; Danaouse Tournbore (Jan) of Hillsboro, Alabama; Jacqueline Elliott of Decatur, Alabama; Dr. May Bolden (Robert) of Florence, Alabama; Carolyn Rains (Jim) of Decatur, Alabama; and Gwylin Crutch (Jerry) of Stedman, North Carolina. The brothers are Lanny Strickland (Jimi) of Memphis, Tennessee; Michael Strickland (Shell) of Youngstown, Ohio; James Swoope of Courtland, Alabama; Otis Swoope (Pat) of Town Creek, Alabama; Lorenzo Swoope of Toledo, Ohio; Andrew Watkins (Linda) of Decatur, Alabama; Johnny Watkins (Angie) of Grand Blanc, Michigan; and Robert Watkins (Mattie) of San Diego California. I consulted Mildred Jean Crutch who verified Edna Ruth Fletcher is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery and is Danny's mother. Edna confided to Mildred that Danny was the son of James Swoope. Mildred is the first cousin of Edna; however, she is listed on Edna's obituary as her sister. Edna did not have any sisters according to Mildred.
