Philip A. Rich, of Stratford, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at the age of 90.
Philip was born on Sunday, November 8, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Connecticut, living in Bridgeport and Shelton prior to becoming a resident of the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home. He loved golf and was an avid New York Yankee fan. As a young man, Philip worked at Rich's Ice Cream Parlor, a family business in Bridgeport. He later became a machinist and worked for Chance Vought, Cooper Weymouth, and retired from the U.S. Baird Corp. in 1990. For a brief period, Philip was the full-time bartender at the Jolly Fisherman Restaurant in Norwalk, CT, a job he truly loved because of the light-hearted atmosphere and his daily interaction with the restaurant's clientele.
Philip was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Filomena (Phyliss) Romano Rich, two sisters, Sally Sobolewski and Bridget Nagy, and a brother, Prospero (Pat) Rich.
He is survived by his son Anthony Rich and his wife Roseann of Stratford, two granddaughters, Holly Urban and her husband Christopher of Auburn NH, and Nicole Putorak and her husband Brian of Stratford. He is also survived by a great grandson, Christopher John (CJ) Urban of Auburn, NH.
Burial services will be private. Private interment will be at 12:00 pm noon on Friday, August 12, 2016 at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, Connecticut 06615.
