GREENSBORO Herbert Lenior White passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at home with his wife by his side. Hub was born April 7, 1943 in Glen Alpine, NC to William and Dorothy White. At the age of 15, his family moved to Summerfield, FL where he attended Lake Weir High School and graduated in 1961. He graduated in 1967 from Western Carolina University with a degree in business and was an avid Catamount fan for life. His fondest memory at WCU was meeting the love of his life, Marianne. Following graduation, Hub first went to work for Georgia Pacific, where he discovered his passion as a lumber salesman. He received several awards for being one of the top salesmen in the country. His gift for sales then grew into the founding of his own business, Triad Wholesale Lumber. Many of his close friends were people in the lumber business. Hub and Marianne moved to Sedgefield in 1980 where they raised their three children and gained many life-long friends. As a member of Sedgefield Country Club, Hub played golf almost daily with his "group of guys." Hub was a very giving person, whether family or friends, and many who knew him are better off as a result of his compassion, love, and generosity. He adored his four grandchildren, who gave him immense joy. Hub is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marianne Touchstone White; two daughters, Kristin Dean of Louisville, CO and Laura Hitchcock (Jimi) of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Olivia Anne Dean, Hattie Belle Hitchcock, Hannah Grace Hitchcock, and James Madison Hitchcock; one brother, Steve White (Elaine) of Cullowhee, NC; sisters, Dianne Baxley (Bill) of Weirsdale, FL and Dottie Pittman (Tommy) of Deltona, FL; and his extended Touchstone family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Herbert (Hub) L. White Jr.; and his brother Richard White. The family wishes to thank all of our friends, caretakers, and family members who gave us such loving support throughout this time. A celebration of life will be held August 16, 2016 at 2:30 pm at Jamestown United Methodist Church (403 East Main St., Jamestown, NC). Visitation will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Casual attire per Hub's wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jamestown United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 339, Jamestown, NC 27282) and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405).
