Rita Darlene Hess-Michael-Myers, 69, passed away peacefully at Carrington Place in Rural Retreat, VA. She went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Rita was surrounded by her immediate family when she was given her wings to fly. She was loved by many and cherished by all who knew her.

Rita grew up in Stephenson, WV and was the daughter of the late Martin Rule Hess (1926-2001) and Susie Jarrell-Hess (1925-1996).

She was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Sue Hess-McKinney (1944–1992); brother, Martin Earl Hess (1948-2016); husband, Harold Durant Michael (1942-Deceased) whom she married on June 24, 1967 in Covel, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1967, Page 201, Application Date: June 21, 1967); and second husband, Richard Lee Myers (Deceased).

Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Melissa Hess-O'Neal and husband Jake O'Neal of Barkers Ridge, Debbie Lynn Hess-Cecil (1965–2018) of Stephenson; a special cousin, Phyllis Green of Stephenson; her three children Lola Michael-Marsh and Joe Thorn of Mullens, WV; Billy Michael and Ginger Michael of Mullens, WV; and Candida Michael-Smith and Ken Smith of Rural Retreat, VA; her loving and very special grandchildren and great-grandchild, Cassie and Terry, Harley, Halie, Billy, Lexie, Levi, Mason and Holden; her dear nieces and nephews, Crystal and Brian Cecil, Norman and Tina McKinney and Robert Ryan Michael.

Rita worked at Walmart in McArthur, WV for 12+ years, she enjoyed and loved her Walmart family and friends. In her spare time she loved playing bingo, yard selling, dining out, and shopping at the dollar store with granddaughter Cassie. Rita also loved the beach, getting her nails done and hanging out with her grand dog Gibs! She absolutely loved watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Christmas in July was among her favorites.

Visitation service will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel in Mullens. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2016 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens with Rev. William O. Tolliver and Rev. Ernest Dunford officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, WV.
