Sidney Johnstone White, Sr. 85 longtime Clerk of the Florida Supreme Court passed away August 13, 2016 at his home.

Sid was born September 20, 1930 in Clearwater to the late Judge Jack F. White Sr. and Mary Westbrook White.

He was a 1949 graduate of Clearwater High School where he was a standout athlete, earning numerous accolades. He joined the Marine Corps in 1949 and later graduated from The University of Virginia.

He married Patricia Ann Wolff in 1952. The couple resided in Wakulla county where Sid worked as a teacher and coach before graduating from Stetson Law School in 1961. He relocated to Monticello in 1962.

He was an attorney and research assistant to Justice Elwyn Thomas when appointed Clerk of the Supreme Court in 1964. He served as Clerk until his retirement in 1999. He is the longest serving Clerk in the history of the Court.

Sid was known for his warmth, generosity, gentlemanly comportment, and ready wit. A devoted husband and father who enjoyed golf, he was also a fine cook and avid sports fan. He owned a series of beloved German Shepherds spanning five decades.

His greatest passion was his land. Together, Sid and his late wife converted an abandoned farm into a beautiful country retreat where they entertained family and friends. Sid was happiest in the driver's seat of his vintage tractor or cheering on his favorite teams.

He was a member of the Florida Bar Association and a founding member of the Jefferson County Country Club.

Preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Pat, daughter Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" White, and brother Jack F. White Jr.

A private graveside service was held at 3pm on Sunday August 14 at Roseland Cemetery in Monticello. A public memorial will be held at the Supreme Court building Tallahassee, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society, 2123 E Washington, Monticello, FL 32344.
