Donald Edward Pace, 69, of Saluda went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 13, 2013 at his home after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Saluda, Donald was a son of the late Arley and Gertrude Belcher Pace. Donald worked with GE for thirty-five years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Zirconia Missionary Baptist Church and was an Army veteran. Donald loved to work, play the banjo, and work with his hands. He loved his family and his dogs, Belle and April.
Survivors include his loving wife of nineteen years, Diane Stepp Pace; a son, Donald Jay Pace and his wife who was like a daughter to Donald, Philicia; a daughter, Leigh Pace; two grandsons, Isaiah Pace and Tiler Pace; a brother, Wayne Pace and his wife Pat; a sister, Carolyn Pace Morgan and her husband James; a first cousin, Jack Pace, who was like a brother to Donald, all of Saluda; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hoots and her husband Teddy of Franklinton, NC; his church family and lots of friends.
The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice, all the nurses, especially Sally Buchanan. The family also wishes to thank their friends at GE, their Zirconia Missionary Baptist Church family, and Mtn. Valley Baptist Church on Green River Cove for all their love and support.
A funeral will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at Mountain Page Baptist Church. The Revs. Travis Parker and Ronnie Hodge will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
