Lydia M. Forthofer, 84, 317 S. Walnut St., Batesville, Ind., died Sunday, March 20, 1993 in the Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville, Ind.

She was born March 29, 1908, in Batesville, Ind., the daughter of Fred and Sophia Wesser Marticke. She was a former employee of the Hill-Rom Company, and retired Aug. 16, 1974, after 23 years with the company. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church and the Ladies Society of the Church. She was past president and officer of the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary of Batesville. She was a member of the Meal Site Program for the Council on Aging from 1986 to November of 1992. She was a member of the Golden Senior Citizens Club in Batesville and was local County Area Senior Queen in the state contest. She quilted for a hobby and served as chairperson for the quilt booths at the St. Louis Church festivals for 37 years.

She was married to John A. Forthofer, and he preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1945. Survivors include two sons, Edward J. Forthofer, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Raymond J. Forthofer, New Castle, Ind.; three daughters, Sister Ruth Mary Forthofer, OSF, Oldenburg, Ind., Mrs. Vince (Ann Marie) Duerstock, Margate, Fla., and Mrs. Carolyn Billman, Batesville, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Loretta) Burst, Sunman, Ind.; 21 grandchildren and one niece.

Father Ric Schneider, OFM will officiate the mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville, Ind.

Burial will be in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville,m from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday.

There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may go to the Oldenburg Academy or the Batesville Rescue 10 Lifesquad.
