Obituary of Robert Dalrymple

Tuesday morning, March 25th, there passed away at his home Highfield, Robert Dalrymple, age 87 years. Though not enjoying the best of health the past two years, he was active up until a week before his death when he sustained a fall while out in the yard when he was seized with a dizzy spell. Four days before passing he had another fall in the house and after that was not out of bed again.

Possessed of a wonderful memory, he took a keen interest in all events and loved to have people come to his home. He travelled around his near neighbors daily until his fall. Deceased was born at Milford, Hants County, a son of David and Mrs. Dalrymple. After his marriage he worked as a ship's carpenter in Bath, Maine, a number of years, and also at Avondale and Hantsport. He will be much missed in the community and home. His wife (formerly Sarah Jane Foley), two daughters and a son predeceased him. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Altia Burgess, Hantsport; Nellie, Mrs. James Crouse, Conquerall Bank, Lun. Co.; five sons, Murray, Wollaston, Mass.;Russell, Bath, Me.; Percy, Natick, Mass.; Earl, Highfield, and Herbert who lived with his father; one half-brother, John Dalrymple, Milford; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral, largely attended, was held at the home Thursday March 27th at 2 o'clock, Rev. T. S. Crisp officiating. A favorite him, "The Hour Of My Departure Comes," was sung, also "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide With Me." The pall bearers were James Benedict, Dexter Church, Grover Swinimer and Munro Davis. Interment in Highfield Cemetery beside his wife, Lohnes Undertaking Service in attendance.


The floral offerings were very beautiful and were as follows:
Cross: Altia, Murray, Raymond, Reg., Myrtle and Murray, Jr.
Wreaths: Earl and Georgia, Herb and Nellie, Melvin and Dorothy, nieces and nephews Alah, Emma, Clara, Effie, Strothard and James.
Sprays: Percy; Grandchildren, Daphne, Mary and Minnie; Women's Association.
