Jerry Price Goodwin, 67 Of Leeds, Al., died on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 of complications from his battle with Cancer. He is survived by his wife Judy A. Goodwin. The memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham, Al. Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Mullinax (Chris) Daughter Stacy Joyner (LTC Patrick Joyner) a sister Doris Chamberlin (Allen) of Leeds; eight grandchildren, Chase, Maddux, Cassady and Caden Mullinax, Grant Billings, and Analei, Katherine and Ashley Joyner. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Price and Reba Goodwin. Jerry spent his entire life racing - not only in life but on the track as well. He started with bicycles, motorcycles and hot rods in his younger and teenage life in the 1950's. "World Famous" as his friends called him, continued his pursuit of racing fame by building and maintaining his own race shop in Leeds from 1967 until death. He spent every weekend of his life traveling from state to state and racing at every short track in the Southeast. He raced asphalt and dirt, with his love being dirt. Jerry raced with the best of the best along the way, having raced against some that went on to be famous in the racing community. In 1978, while racing at Montgomery Speedway, his car hit the guardrail and exploded into a ball of fire. Jerry spent four months in burn unit of UAB Hospital. Jerry was burned over 30 percent of his body. Determination drove Jerry to return to the track. Jerry's racing career spanned 42 years. Jerry left this earth with Chris, his best friend and son-in-law, by his side and his second best friend, Red Farmer, on the way to the hospital. Jerry was loved by many and missed by more.
