January 7, 1936 - June 10, 2016Rita J. Brooks was born in Plainfield, New Jersey.Rita moved to Burbank, CA, before she was a teen. She attended UCLA.Rita married Donald J. Brooks in 1959. The family moved to San Jose in the late 1960's.She raised four children.She worked for FMC, and achieved the title of Vice President before the economy forced the company to close.She went back to college and graduated from San Jose State University with a BS in Accounting in 1992. After graduation she was hired by the State of California as a tax auditor, where she worked until she retired in 2002.After retirement Rita moved to Grants Pass, OR. Soon after, she completed one of her life's dreams, and became a Master Gardener.Rita moved into Brookdale Senior Living in August 2014. In the two years she lived at Brookdale, she was a leader in the community garden, and instrumental at getting a new greenhouse installed.Rita enjoyed playing poker, cribbage, gardening and spending time with family.She is survived by her four children, Greg Brooks of Boulder, CO, Terri Collins-Bain, Jana Gunn, and Steve Brooks, all of Grants Pass; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.A Celebration of Life is planned on Sunday, June 26, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 1357 Redwood Circle, Grants Pass, OR.In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
