Mrs. Audrey Cowart Simmons, 90, passed away August 11, 2016 at Kings Daughters Medical Center. She was born on February 21, 1926 to Edgar Fenton Cowart and Myrtle Laird Cowart.
She was a member of Florida Blvd Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA for 42 years and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church since 1995 to current, and was a member of the first graduating class of West Lincoln in 1943. After graduation, she moved to Jackson to attend Draughns Business College, and was soon accepted as a clerical worker for the FBI in Washington DC, in the fingerprint division. It was here that she met the love of her life, who later became her husband, Buddy Simmons. She was employed early on in their marriage, but the roll of “Mama” was most fulfilling.
The relationship with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, was priority number one, always. She loved her Lord, and served Him daily. Her greatest desire, in her own words was to pass on a spiritual legacy and foundational work that will be a lasting influence now, and on through the lives of her family into eternity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Myrtle Cowart; husband of 52 years, Lewis L. “Buddy” Simmons; son, David Charles Simmons; grandson, Joseph Allen Martin; great grandson, Coby Mack Martin; brother, George C. Cowart and brother-in-law, Wayne B. Myers.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Leah Melinda Skains and husband, Lamar; sister, Sharon Cowart Myers; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Lee Martin, and wife Amber, Jacob Paul Martin and wife Ashley & Jessie Danielle Martin;
she is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Conner Lewis Martin, Aibry Laine Martin, Carah Brook Martin, Rhyder Allen Martin and Caston Lake Martin and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends whom she loved dearly.
