John Calvin Laird, age 82, of Glendale passed away peacefully Nov. 27, 2006, at his home.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Walton County, Fla., to Cyrus Darby and Annie Tew Laird. Mr. Laird was a lifelong resident of Walton County. He was Presbyterian by faith and a member of Glendale Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Army. He worked with the Florida State Road Department for over 20 years. He lived life to the fullest and dearly loved his family and friends.

Mr. Laird was predeceased by his father and mother, Cyrus Darby Laird and Annie Tew Laird; one brother, Olin Laird; and two sisters, Stella Campbell and Viola McCorkle.

Mr. Laird is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annie Lou Laird; daughter, Marie Laird Chancey and husband Earl ; granddaughter, Christina Chancey Wilder and husband Darren; great-grandchildren, Savannah Michaela Wilder, Chancelor Franklin Wilder and Ellie Marie Wilder; and one brother, Darby Laird. Mr. Laird is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Tony Dixon and Kenneth Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.

Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
