Jose was born in Santa Rosa, NM. He arrived in Vietnam 31 May 1968 and was assigned to Mike Company,3rd Battalion,4th Marine Regiment,3rd Marine Division.
Sgt Moncayo died as a result of a gunshot wound to the body from rifle fire. The company was set in a night defensive position when enemy forces assaulted the Marines, about 4 kilometers west southwest of LZ Torch, and 16 kilometers south of Khe Sanh Airfield.
Mike Company was participating in Operation Scotland II. Sgt Moncayo was 1 of 15 Marines that died during the assault by enemy forces.
Jose was single and served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his parents, Bornifacia Ferniza, of Morenci, AZ. and Juan R Mancayo,of Santa Rosa,NM.

Jose joined the Marine Corps as part of the Morenci Nine, who all joined as part of the buddy system.
